NATIONAL PONY SOCIETY SUMMER SHOW 2007 - MALVERN HIGHLAND PONY SHOW 2007 AND PONIES UK 2007

Judging committments have meant that I been unable to attend many shows this year - perhaps a blessing due to the horrible weather we have had - but ponies attended the above three shows with their very trusty carers - I think I only saw one class at all of the above shows!!, being Show Director for the NPS, Secretary for Malvern HPS and Ring C-Ordinator for PUK

However, didn't they do well

Lochlands Banjo qualified for both the Ridden Silver Medal final and the Templeton O Neil Open final at NPS. He came a very creditable third in the Silver Medal, but the highlight of his show was coming second in the Adult and Child during the Evening Performance -

Ffrica of Forglen - qualified for the Junior, Templeton O Neil and Inhand Silver Medal. She was placed in all three finals, coming a fab 6th in the Silver Medal from a very strong class and her highlight was definitely winning the Pairs with Alice on Guiniviere of Whitefield - as pictured on the front page

Ffrica has since gone on the Ponies UK where she once again won her section of the Kingsford Final which she won back in 2005

MANY MANY THANKS TO EMILY AND ELEANOR FOR MAKING SUCH A GOOD JOB OF THESE TWO FAB PONIES

Lochlands Prinicipal Flute

Unbeaten to date - only one way to go from here. Won his Class at the NPS Show, Won and Youngstock Champion at Malvern HPS next day

Thanks to Mark Tamplin who has done an incredible job with him this season - he hasn't always been the easiest

He return after Bucks County and will Winter here before standing at Stud for 2008

SAILNADENE
1985 - 2007

Salina was a special pony from the moment of her birth. Her breeder, Scott McGregor of Ballinton, spotted her as one to watch and he was not to be disappointed.

By Dougaldene out of Emerald-dene, Salina was supposed to be named after the then well known Selina Scott, but a slip of the pen produced the name "Salina". She was known as Sal.

A versatile pony, she was a brood mare and was ridden in the years she was yeld. In 1992, she had been served but was scanned not in foal and so set off on her career under saddle in 1993. After the in hand class at Fife Show, her producer felt there was something not right about Salina and asked the vet to check her out. He advised on taking her home as she was literally about to foal!! The resultant foal proved to be Salina's legacy to the Highland Pony Breed: Fyfedene.

Salina had many excellent results both in hand and under saddle, having been In Hand Champion and Reserve Ridden Champion at Doune & Dunblane in 1992, Supreme M&M Ridden at Braco and Ridden Champion at Scottish Horse Show both in 1995.

Her crowning glory came in 2000, when Scott entered her for RHS as he wanted to exhibit her foal, Josethdene. He was amazed and delighted when, as a fifteen year old, she won the Female Championship and went on to be Overall Highland Pony Champion.

When Scott decided to relocate his stud in Australia, he felt that Salina was too old to cope with the journey and so Salina and her old friend, Dark Maiden of Kildavie, went to Debbie Spears in Buckinghamshire to live out the rest of their days.

Salina was a beautiful, correct mare and had a wonderful temperament. Above all, she was a great character.

On 20th March this year, Salina suddenly developed peritonitis and was humanely put down.

Thanks to Joan Alexander Fourmerk Stud for this Obituary

Lochlands Banjo - Now renamed Mr Boomerang

Once again Banjo has foiled his new owners into believing his wasn't happy and I understand being a bit of a tinker to ride!! - so I have personally bought him back! and will now remain with me.

Has a new Junior Jockey for this season called Hannah Murray who had her first outing with him at Patchetts and came a very creditably second

These highlands are rather clever little ponies!!

FLYNN FAMILY SEASON!!

Ffrica
We had a lovely time as usual with her. She won her silver medal (and Em only had junior card in her pocket) - oops! She had two 2nds and a 3rd in her HOYS qualifiers and various wins in between. Our ponies did not go out very much due to the dreaded GCSE's. On reflection, the day we thoroughly enjoyed was taking Ffrica to HPEC South show with my 9year old niece. They won the turnout and 2nd in jnr handler with her tiny jockey beaming from ear to ear. Just puts things into perspective, you would have thought we had won olympia. Ffrica had some very good placings at PUK Champs and has only been lightly worked since due to concentrating on new pony. We took her out to Patchets at the weekend where she duly won the Llanarth and NPS Open. She truly is a superstar. Debbie was trying to wean her off us and found us a beautiful pony called Dunedin Megan. Didn't work though, cos Ffrica is staying for next year!

Leah
We have had a fantastic time as Leah has started jumping. She is so trusting and nothing phases her. She was champion ridden highland at HPEC Southand won the handy pony. She also won two dressage tests in with the warmbloods and was put on Pony Club Dressage team. I loved watching people when we bring our hairy highland out of the lorry as they smile kindly at us then she finishes on a score of 70.1. Leah had a 2nd and two 3rds at PUK summer championships and she paid for our diesel! She has also been out once in the last couple of weeks and won and qualified BSPS Restricted and Open Winter Champs. Her present job is nannying the newly broken ponies out hacking.

Megan
How lucky we feel to have this beautiful pony for next year from a conversation Debbie had 6 months ago with Anne Mitchell (her breeder). She has been to two shows, qualifying for PUK Junior, Open summer 2007 and NPS Open 2007, then a fantastic 9th at HOYS.
The intention was for us only to have one pony as Emily is at school 6 days a week. If you are friends with Debbie, you end up very poor with three fantastic ponies. Wouldn't change anything for the world though.
Debbie's Boot Camp for Teenagers
Emily stayed with Debbie and had the most fantastic time helping and riding her growing selection of ponies. She enjoyed it so much, I had to take her back again. I can highly recommend this to any Mums as Emily was in bed asleep by 8.00pm for the first few days she was home.
Wishing everyone a happy, safe time with their ponies for the coming months.

Lochlands Principal Flute jointly owned by myself and Frances McWilliam has returned for his Winter holiday. It is hoped that he will be produced in hand for the 2007 season.

Lochlands Banjo has finished the season with a high. He was 2nd in the Olympia at Bucks County and was Ridden Champion at Thame County qualfying for the 2007 NPS Silver Medal Rosette final and the Templeton O NEal. He is now going to concentrate on workers through the Autumn and has recently completed Stowe Sponsored Ride where he jumped everything he was put at!!

Well Well done to Emily Flynn and their new purchase Dunedin Megan. they finished a brilliant a brilliant 9th at Hoys and spend the winter forming a great partnership. Ffrica not to be outdone went out for the first time since August at Patchetts by winning both the Llanarth and NPS Open winter qualifiers.

Welcome to Rignell Brora 3 year old fill by "Brig O Doon of Whitefield" who has been with me over the last few weeks trying to loose a bit of weight!!! - she is one of life's good doers!! She at last looked presentable enough to take to Thame where she was second .
She will now Winter out with Rose-Marie of Sunnyneuk and hopefully she will use up all that stored excesses!

Wow what a busy period it has been! along with its highs and lows.

Disappointment allround when Salinadene foaled early losing her colt foal. It was born alive but never got going. You never really get to the botton of these cases but as farmers always say "where there's livestock there's dead stock". However Salina if fine and currently playing granny to Dark Maiden of Kildavie's Fill foal which was only born one day before the highland breed show in Scotland. Will have pictures on site as soon as I can get a good one!!!

Salinadene - twenty one years and still looking like she could win Olympia.Unfortunately her colt foal was born dead so she is doing somethinga little different for a while - nothing too stressful just a poddle or two!!

with so many judging and stewarding appointments it has been difficult to get out and about showing myself so was really pleased with reseve youngstock champion at East Anglian Natives with 3 year old "Rose Marie of Sunnyneuk". She is now settled in foal so that was her one and only outing this year!

Cloverdene is riding well and again had her first outing at NPS Area 17 in hand as she has not been shown before!. Was delighted with two thirds have to say it was a bit hairy at times and she was a bit of a figgit infront of the judges so could not expect any higher placing. Am delighted that Sharon Flynn will be taking her on for her novice year in 2007.

Leyhills Bertie Lyon now owned by Anna Wilson hs returned to be broken and what a star he has been. Tken everything in his stride and returns home just before the New Forst Show - so best of luck to Anna and look out for him doing some winter ridden novice classes.

Emily Flynn must feel luck is just not on her side. She still has Ffrica of Forglen on loan for this season and has knocked on the door so many times in the Hoys qualifiers!. Second at West Midlands Stallion Show, Third at Lincoln and Second in a huge class at The Royal - each time missing out by just a mark or two! - However its not all about Hoys and both Ffrica and Leah have qualified for a number of the Championship Finals at NPS and PUK so fingers crossed for them.

Lochlands Banjo has been his usual consistent self - He represented the Highlands at the Breed Display at the Royal - though he nearly melted in the heat!. He has qualified for the Kingsford and PUK junior final with Katie Ramsden and well placed in the couple of Hoys classes he did capably jockeyed by Janine Modder..

More news after the Champs!

Drumpark Leah - very successful at PUK Winter Champs

FEBRUARY 2006

Write this whilst still recovering from todays Colt licensing!! where I had to endure being bitten to death whilst running 20 metre circles!!! -up and down the menage and final a huge lunging session to get the heart beat up - god knows whose!!!!!!!!!! Anyway passed with flying colours so that's good!!!!!

Welcome home Banjo

Yes the boy is back!!!. Lesley Jolly is officially his new owner but has kindly allowed him to be here. He's going to learn to jump!!! with my new groom Katie who joined the team in January. Will also do a few of the bigger shows!!!! but all in all will be doing a multitude of jobs!!!

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances Nikki Murray has had to sell Leyhills Bertie Lyon who now passes to Anna Wilson of Hants. All the best to her - believe she is just about to break him - he'll be any easy one

Two mares from Ballinton have settled in really well with great individual characters and am looking forward to foals but will have to wait until June!!!

Am currently breaking in Cloverdene - going far too well at the moment- so won't say too much more at the moment - report next month!!!!!!

Promise to try and keep the site regularly updated - quite difficult in the winter months so have saved it up for now!!!!

Salinadene and Dark Maiden of Kildavie have safely arrived and are a pleasure to have around.

Both these mares are twenty years old and are in great spirit, scanned in foal so fingers crossed!!!!!!!!!!.

For those of you who are not familier with these mares they have been great breeding mares for Scot McGregor at Ballinton and I am really happy to have them down here.

October 2005

This is a very quiet time of year for me. The youngsters are enjoying being turned away in 10 acres and I am preparing the yard for the coming Winter Months. However all will change after Christmas with both Leyhills Bertie Lyon and Cloverdene needing to be broken!

Lochlands Principal Flute is growing on well and fingers crossed he will be licensed in the Spring ready for a select few mares in 2006.

FFRICAS NEWS

This season has gone so quickly.

Ffrica went to her 2nd RIHS QUAL. At Newbury Showground and duly won! She then went off the stud for five weeks, being wined and dined and despite every effort came home extremely rounded and then scanned not in foal! Sorry Deb, we tried so hard not to look happybut Emily is besotted with the kindest pony ever, this meant we could keep her even longer. In our true professional style, her keep fit training was bareback hacking thru the river and riding out with Emily's friends.

We took her to Iver Horse Show where she was 2nd and Reserve Champion in a huge confined novice class.
On to NPS champs. We had not had the opportunity to do any Junior classesso entered the qualifying class of 34 ponies which they duly won. They were 4th in the Junior Final the next day.

The Highland Pony show was on the last day and Ffrica was pulled in top in the open and went down to 4th after the ride judge had ridden her. We were all tired but happy and she lounged around for the week before PUK Champs.

Emily realised she would have to rein back. We unsuccessfully tried conventional methods which would have been good if we were training her to dance on her hind legs, but unbeknown to me Em went out at 7.30pm one night and called me out an hour later. Ffrica would now rein back in a headcollar! According to Em you just sit on bareback and feed carrots from on top.

We arrived at PUK an hour before the Kingsford Final, did our five minutes warm up and won it! The pair of them had a fantastic time in the evening performance although Ffrica was like a woman possessed before she went in, she was so perfectly behaved, we were so proud of them.

We can't thank you enough Debbie for letting us have her and the best news ever is although we said we were going to hide her when you wanted her back, you letting us keep her for next year.

DUMPARK LEAH

Drumpark Leah ridden by Katy Marriott-Payne

We now have Leah and watched her having an amazing week with Katy Marriot-Payne at PUK. She won a huge Novice Class, 1st Reserve Champion and 2nd in a very strong open class. We bought her home from PUK. She is an absolute pleasure to have around. To have one easy pony is brill but to have two is way beyond our wildest dreams. Although we have only had her just over a week, we took her to a show and she got her Kingsford Ticket for 2006, did not bat an eyelid at the carriage driving, steam ralley and fair all going on whilst she was in the ring!

Hope we haven't gone on too much. We have met the loveliest people and thoroughly enjoyed every outing this year.

Drumpark Leah qualified for the NPS Picton Final in her first ever outing under saddle ridden by Katy

Rose-Marie of Sunnyneuk won her inhand class at NPS Are XI this saturday (14/5) and went Reserve Champion

FFRICA of FORGLEN

FFrica of Forglen having great success with Emily Flynn.

They have qualified for the Kingsford ridden and Junior ridden Summer Champ Finals at PUK Newark and Notts.

I believe they have the highland bug!!!!!

NEWS FROM THE VERY FABULOUS FFRICA IN THE FLYNN CAMP

Ffricka is the most gentlest, kindest of ponies to fly the flag for her
breed.
She has had a very busy easter holiday, wearing her Pony Club hat for the
rallies and numerous hacks down the river for a picnic with Emily and her
friends. This is one of her most favourite outings as food is her favourite
hobby.Apart from being a total superstar at home, they are having a
wonderful time in the ring.

We took her to Keysoe where she won the Llanarth and was 2nd in the
Kingsford. Next on to BSPS 16 Spring show where she was 4th in the open and
2nd Dalkieth Junior M & M in some huge classes. On to BSPS 15a where she
was 3rd in her first RIHS qual. with the highest confirmation marks of the
day and a good ride mark inspite of doing a "highland trip" in her show.
Emily thinks she was too busy gazing at a rather hansom Section D stallion.
Ffrica is a most endearing pony and has built up her own fan club in our
area (not many highlands here).

No wonder Nikkie, who owns her son Bertie Lyons is so excited at the
prospect of him coming out under saddle next year. He seems to have the
temperament and looks of his Mum! Fingers crossed and watch this space.
Ffricka is having a quiet month just exploring the rides around here as
she is due to visit Sara Hirds beautiful stallion ............
Ffricka and Emily are going to try some sidesaddle (this should be
interesting). Keep you posted as we are going to drag Debbie along!

Take care.

Flynn Family (all newly converted Highland people)

Well done to Frances McWilliam and her ridden mare "Mountain Rowan of Craigie Loch" who is with Matthew Lawrence this season. They took the first of the Royal International Qualfiers at Hartbury and went Champion.

This will definitely be a combination to beat this season!

WANTED

14 - 14.2 4/5 year old Mare or Gelding broken or unbroken. Must be show quality. Super private home awaits where the right pony will not spend its life dragged round the show circuit but will go dressaging, pony clubing, hacking and fun!!
